Carson Homes was one of the builders recommended by our local real estate broker. We were very reluctant to build again because of a nightmare construction experience a few years ago. Chris convinced us the job would go smoothly. He was right. This was easy, especially by comparison. We love the quality of materials and workmanship in our new home. Co-operation by subcontractors helped keep our project on schedule.
So, would we recommend Carson Homes to anyone looking to build in this area?
Yes, wholeheartedly.
Carson Homes Is Our Top Pick. We were very excited about building our first home, but quickly realized the enormity of the task that lay ahead of us. We did not have the typical house blueprints most builders start out with. A lot and a rough, hand drawn concept of the home we wanted was all we had to bring to the table. Carson Homes was not only up the task, but made the entire process fun and exciting.
Chris Carson was professional and understanding. He was quick to respond to questions and quick to resolve any problems that inevitably pop up during the building process. He made it possible for us to be involved as much or as little as we wished and always kept us well informed regardless of our involvement. His expertise in building was such that changes during building were not a problem and we could often say ‘do what you think will look good’. And he delivered. We love our house.
The job site was safe and clean. We never felt uncomfortable about being on site. Chris was hands on; always at the site making sure things were running smoothly. They maintained a good schedule which allowed us to move in a timely manner. If we were to ever build again, there is no doubt that Carson Homes would be our top pick.
Thank you!
We have personally known Chris Carson of Carson Homes for close to 25 years, but have recently had the opportunity to get to know him on a business level when we decided to build our home with him in 2007. Our building experience couldn’t have gone any better! Chris’s work ethic, dogged determination, and genuine character made even the “rough spots” seem not so rough. Chris was highly involved in every aspect of the process.
It was evident that he has a good relationship with all of his subcontractors who were very reliable, professional, and true craftsmen. Every time we came into the house as it was being built we were amazed at the attention to detail. We feel the quality of our home cannot be matched. Visitors in our home are amazed by the trim work and cabinetry. We wish we could say that all these things were our ideas in the building process, but Chris recommended just about everything we did and we are so glad we took his advice. Apparently the amazing woodwork is a Carson Homes trademark!
Chris had wonderful recommendations for companies for us to work with for our plumbing, hardware, lighting etc… Every company we used had stellar remarks about Chris’s attention to detail and quality of work. We cannot agree more.
We would personally recommend working with Carson Homes and wouldn’t consider working with any other contractor if building is ever in our future.
Our home is always open for any future clients to come and look at a Carson Homes finished product!
Choosing a builder will be the most important decision you make when building your custom home. That is why we are happy to recommend Chris Carson (Carson Homes) to anyone considering building a new home. He is competitively priced and made us feel comfortable and confident with the daunting prospect of constructing our dream home from a set of blue prints. He communicated well and he made numerous suggestions on how to improve the design/livability of the house as we went along. Since we were living in Atlanta during construction this was very helpful to us.
The allowances Chris provides, which make up a significant part of the total, were realistic and provided high quality finishes throughout. We were very happy with his suppliers and subcontractors and were pleased with the finished product. Changes to our plans were made quickly and easily as the building progressed minimizing delays. This was a very important feature for us since we were not local. Ultimately the project came in on time and within a few dollars of our initial budget.
Chris was easy to work with. As questions/changes came along, as they inevitably do, he was responsive and good at finding a cost effective solution. He is very good at value engineering; i.e. making small changes/suggestions that adds real value at a reasonable cost and ultimately provides of a better product.
Most of all he stands behind his work and his word and that says a lot to me about the individual and the company he runs. He’s a “hands on builder” vs. a “production builder” and the type of builder I trust to build “my home” …not just a house.
In the end what more could you want in a builder: he is competitive, honest, and dependable, delivers high quality, and operates with the highest integrity. I’d hire him again.
We were told many times that building a custom home could be very stressful. We can honestly say that that statement could not be farther from the truth for us.
Once our house design and specifications were put to paper, our next step was to find a reputable builder who could transform those drawings into a beautiful home. We ultimately chose Carson Homes for several reasons. One, the Carson Homes properties that we previewed represented exactly what we were looking for-a quality, solidly-built home, with a fine eye towards detail. Two, we were pleased that the projected cost and delivery schedule of building out new home fell within our budget and timeframe. Third, the pre-contract conversations we had with Chris Carson gave us the confidence that he was committed to deliver the quality home of our dreams.
From the first day we met Chris, the line of communication between us exactly met our needs. We were building from out-of-state so we constantly had questions and curiosities, but Chris was very responsive to our concerns. He conferred with us through phone conferences, sent pictures on the progress on the house, and met with us each time we came into town. There were even a couple of times when Chris brain-stormed with us as to how we could improve the functionality of the house. We decided to make a few alterations; Chris considered the cost to us as well as how the change would look in relation to the design of the entire house.
Now that we have moved into our new home and are settled in, we still feel strongly that we made the right decision with Carson Homes. And, we are confident that Carson Homes will do the same for you.
It has been just over a year since we moved into the new house and I thought it would be a good time to let you know how much Susan and I have appreciated working with you and your people. I believe our situation is a bit different than your typical customer as we did not contract with you directly to build the house. We purchased the house from your former client when it was essentially complete. It would have been easy for you to walk away at that point as we had no contractual relationship with you as the builder. Instead, you have always made yourself available to us to answer questions and address issues related to the house.
I should begin by saying that you build a first class house. We are especially impressed with your attention to detail. The moldings and finish work throughout the house are outstanding and a tribute to classic Charleston design. Susan and I have designed and built custom homes before and the quality of your workmanship is the best we’ve seen. It’s difficult to explain, but the house has a feeling of substance to it that speaks of how solidly it is built. You can hear it when you shut a door and feel it underfoot when you walk down the second floor hallway.
But it is your follow-up that has impressed us most. Throughout the last year you have always been available to handle the little issues that naturally come up when breaking in a new house. These were typically small things, sometimes embarrassingly so, but you always addressed our concerns and made sure things were not just done, but done right. Frankly, our prior experience with builders was that once the checks were written, they were off to other jobs and it was difficult to get something as mundane as a punch list addressed in a timely basis, if at all.
Your help was especially appreciated when we decided to add the third floor home theater and storage area. Again, it was a small job, one that many builders would pass on because they were too busy. Your crews did a great job and even suggested some changes to our plans that improved the finished product.
Being new to the area we’re often asked where we live. Once we give the address and describe the house, virtually everyone recognizes it by the four porches and comments on what a beautiful home we have. We couldn’t agree more.
I wanted to take a moment and comment on our experience with Carson Homes. This was the first custom home my wife and I have built and Chris Carson made the process as pleasant as possible.
We had heard so many horror stories around our neighborhood about dealing with custom builders, their sub-contractors and the lack of follow through during post-construction. Some might consider me to have high expectations and my personality does gravitate toward dwelling in the details. Because of this I try to avoid allowing my expectations to affect relationships with people I work with. However, I think Chris and his team might take my attention for detail to a new level.
From pre-construction, construction, post-construction and one year warranty Carson Homes provided exemplary quality as well as an environment to foster a long term relationship with our builder. My wife and I have always been encouraged to call Chris or his team at any time or reason if we have concerns about our home.
There is a laundry list of evaluation parameters people should look into and I encourage homeowners to exercise these tools. But, when it comes to building a home Charleston, SC I highly recommend you give Chris and his team a call. My wife and I could never express in words how reassured we were throughout the process and are always available for further discussion about Carson Homes. We can be reached through Carson Homes.
Panoramic waterfront views. A 5,000 square foot custom-built home. A large backyard with a deepwater dock. It just can’t get any better than that.
Last winter, Jay and Kristen Odell decided to purchase a waterfront lot at Mitchell Wharf and build their dream home. In just 8 1/2 months, they were able to move in, 45 days earlier than expected.
“The building process couldn’t have gone smoother. There were certainly numerous decisions to be made and Carson Homes was extremely helpful and easy to get along with every step of the way,” said Kristen. “And being able to move in 45 days early went way beyond our expectations.”
As you enter the home, panoramic water views can be seen from almost every room. The floor plan is light and airy and a high standard of craftsmanship is evident at every corner.
“I just love the way the home turned out,” says Kristen. “Chris (Carson) was extremely attentive to every detail, from assisting with designing the floor plan to picking out paint colors.”
And who wouldn’t love a large custom kitchen where you can cook and watch the kids fish and swim off the dock.
“The kitchen is just beautiful. The colors are very light and I love how everything is flush, including the refrigerator that blends perfectly into the cabinetry,” says Kristen.
Perhaps one of the best features of the home is the outdoor living space. A spacious back porch overlooks an expansive backyard and deepwater dock.
“We were really surprised at how big the backyard turned out. With two young boys, Jay and I were very keen on having a yard that was spacious enough for them to run around in. It’s just great watching them play soccer outside – they really love it,” says Kristen.
A deepwater dock backs up directly to the backyard. At low tide, a small beach is revealed and is perfect for crabbing or just hanging out.
“I often find myself just sitting and enjoying the views,” comments Kristen. “We’ve seen dolphin and it’s really spectacular when a storm is rolling in. The entire building process went smoother than we could have ever imagined. We couldn’t be happier.”
Choosing the right builder is one of the first and most important steps in creating your dream home. We are thrilled with our choice of Carson Homes, as are many of their happy past clients we have met.
The right builder was especially critical in our case because we have never built a home before. From clearing the lot to the last coat of paint Chris was by our side every step of the way. In our case, Chris was extensively involved in the design of our house as well, which made the transition from concept to reality effortless. The budget was clearly laid out from the start of the project and there were no surprises in the end. Our house was finished on-time and within our budget. Furthermore, in these economic times, Chris was sensitive to our financial needs yet still found a way to create a luxurious home above and beyond our expectations.
Chris and his staff were tireless in their effort to make our home perfect. Working with him you really feel as though he is treating your house as if it were his own with expert attention to detail. Chris and his team were always readily available during the construction process, as well as after. There is no task that Chris could not handle, no matter what we threw at him. I would be remiss in neglecting to mention Toni Carson as well, the ambassador to Carson Homes. If you are lucky she may even bring by some food on your move-in day. ☺ My wife and I developed a wonderful relationship with Chris, his staff, and his family, and still spend time with them long after closing. I would say that I would absolutely have Chris build our next home too…but I am not ready to leave the one we already love.
In 2006 we began the process of building our very first custom home. The real estate market was booming and there were plenty of choices for new construction. We began the process by finalizing our “dream” house plans. Followed by, interviewing many builders to gain a feel for their work and personality. After all, it is a long relationship and I was going to be a “hands on” customer.
To ensure success, we decided from the very beginning what was extremely important to us when choosing a building partner: Quality Workmanship, Flexibility in the many decisions to be made, building Value in our investment, and Honesty.
Without question, Carson Homes represents all of those and delivered. We could not have been happier with the results. Chris and his team were very thorough in discussing the process from beginning to end. From foundation and framing to the detail of finish work, they always had time to discuss our best options to create our vision.
You often hear how building a house is a nightmare. Our experience was quite the opposite. My family and I moved in our house on time, and immediately it was home. Carson Homes continues to be there for any questions we have about the care and maintenance of our home. Thanks Chris.
